Dear Craig, as Jerson has suggested, the poster can declare a portion as code, as:

</code>

Insertion of <code> and </code> can be done by a button. (Jerson, the jpg of your posts shows the Forum software provided by Gossamer Forum)

Also, automatic previewing of code inserted posts can also be made, just to ensure the poster's acceptance.. (seems like this this is deviating from the original subject and may be moved to general chat as 'Syntax Highlighting of Posts')
