#103606 - Exactly!

Instead count the ADC clock by using the gated mode of one of the 89S52 timers, busy of ADC will be the gate.

Exactly! The clock pulses are not only to be applied during integration and de-integration phases, but also before this period, otherwise auto zeroing will not work! So, continuously applying clock pulses to the ADC but counting only those which occur when "busy" of ADC is high is a good way to proceed.

According to datasheet, formula will then be:

Vin = Vref x (total counts - 10,001) / 10,000

"Total counts" is what is counted during the period when "busy" of ADC is high.
