#11251 - RE: Triscend E5
Well, Steve, dare I say, "search the archives!?" ;-)

I am using this chip with my current Client and yes, it's pretty impressive!

Do I guess that you've also just had the "glossy" in a mailshot from Hitex?

Things to note about that particular offering:
* You only get an evaluation licence if the Triscend FastChip software - a full licence is an extra $99 (FastChip provides the programmable-logic design support, hardware debugger & JTAG downloader)
* You don't get a separate JTAG interface; it's all embedded on the board - so you wouldn't be able to re-use it for your own target
* One of the restrictions of tbe Keil Evaluation is that it won't generate code to run in the E505 internal RAM
* Despite what they say, Keil and FastChip are not really integrated: they're two completely separate applications; FastChip kust generate a header file using Keil's extensions for SFRs, etc.

Note that the "DevKit" on that leaflet (and the URL you gave) is a "cut-down" version; the "full" version, using an E520, is ~US$600.

No, the chip is not tied to Keil at all; it's a standard 8032 core (Similar to the Dallas core, I believe). Any toolset which supports the 8032 hardware features will do - but Keil does make it quite easy!

There are still some issues with the uVision interface for debugging, download, etc.

The UK Triscend support are very helpful.

There is also an ARM version, so you have an upgrade path if you need a "heavier" processor.

Kalpak: yes, Triscend have also thought of the emulator idea!
