Erik, thanks for the idea with the external interrupt. It will make the instruction to be replaced shorter.

Your opinion is very valuable and I agree an ICE and a code running fully from FLASH is the thing to have. For rapid prototyping and learning purposes a board with RAM makes still sense IMHO.
Keep in mind this is for learning new things and trying out. I did use your page copy method for my irq table for example.

No need to argue, I have this ready to use board with RAM here. I won't design a whole new circuit when everything for _my_ needs is currently there. So far _I_ didn't run into limitations of such a setup. That may be completely different for someone else ofcourse.

Everyone his own opinion. Freedom is to do things without harming anyone!
