It's probably a DE9. The "B" shell is the one used with the 25-pin connector, e.g. DB9S, as on the parallel printer port.

A DB9 is the "B" size shell with only 9 pins in it, and, while it was used that way back in the '70's, that's not done much any more.

There are lots of fools, mostly salesmen, who just call everything that has a "D"-shaped shell a DB-something. That's not appropriate. This is a standard part, with a numbering scheme that specifies the shell size, the number of pins, and the gender, e.g. DB25S for the "socket" and DE9P for the plug. The 15-pin joystick connector, which you may not have any longer, is a DA15P or DA15S.
