#120466 - You\'re certainly right in that regard!
Responding to: ???'s previous message
People posting questions should always be specific in their inquiries. However, it's totally off-base for you, knowing what you do, to slap someone down because they make the generic reference just as you do every day.

True, you know the difference, but, sadly, and thanks to their inept instructors, most of the newbies don't.

Just to clear things up, however, AMD, among others, made the Intel version of the 8051, though it was not an i8051. I've got some of those, too. When someone refers to "an 8051," I know he's got to be referring to one of the originally licensed versions. He makes assumptions, as you do, based on the notion that everyone else who claimed to produce an 8051 copied that version. I'd say that's a safe assumption, though the later versions, faster, than God, than the original, will not be compatible in all respects.

You, yourself, have often referred to differences from the original version. However, I do believe you've lost your mooring to the original. You refer to "the bible" in many posts, but I think you've wandered away from the original "liturgy" in many of your comments.

When someone fails to qualify their query with the specific variant they're using, they should be allowed to refer to the "generic" 805x as though it were the "original," since that's what's referred to in the "bible." Most of 'em don't know better than to do that, and they, and those who do, should be exhorted to be more specific.
