If not integrated with a debugger, they, as far as I can see, have only two purposes
a) outright thievery b) sloppy practices ("I lost the source") I addition, the one opportunity I have had using a disassembler ("the building where the source was burned and we did not have offline backup, Erik, help us") turned out pretty soon to be a case where it was far easier to start from scratch, than work with a disassembly.
