Being an (aspiring) author I always use normal english, and tend not to shorten spellings if I can help it.

I think my only concern is what are we teaching those who do not have a large english vocabulary?

We're teaching bad habits.

I also think using 'IMHO' and 'BTW' are worse than using 'u' instead of 'you'.

Students of English can probably have a guess at 'u' but not BTW. Which is a english phrase meaning 'incidentally'
