I wouldn't say it's "easy" - it needs careful thought throughout!

Not least understanding the difference between assemblers & compilers!
If you can't cope with such attention to detail, you probably need to get someone else to do it.

But it is certainly do-able and, like Erik, many projects do it as a matter of course.
