Well, let's think about the words:

"Power" is the rate of doing work;

A "microprocessor" does processing.

So the "power" of a (micro)processor is a measure of how much and/or how fast it can process.

Some tasks involve a large amount of processing, so require a powerful processor; others do not require much processing, so do not require a powerful processor!


For example, high-definition video requires a very great deal of processing, but simply flashing an LED requires very little processing.
