In fact, except for MOVX instructions, there are always 2 fetches from the code ROM per instruction cycle, i.e. a complete ALE-/PSEN cycle takes 6 oscillator cycles (talking about the "vanilla" 12-clocker all the time). The consequence is, that some of the fetches are simply "thrown away", for example if an instruction takes 1 cycle and has 1 byte (e.g. mov a,Rx). If you are interested in more details, have a close look at the timing diagrams in the hardware part of the "bible". JW |
