I'm asking this because I want to initiate a dial-up connection between the PC and the micro. I know this is not an answer to you question, but could you explain why you want your PC to think it's connected to the Internet when it's really connected to a microcontroller? I can see wanting to have the microcontroller connect to the Internet with PPP over a modem connection, but why are you creating firmware to fool the PC into thinking it's connected to the Internet?
