Are you talking about writing programs, or burning the resulting code into the chip?
Or both?

Either way, it's unlikely to be Linux per se that would be the limiting factor - it'd be whatever tools you're running on Linux.
So you need to state what tools you're using.

Most 8051 tools do seem to be MS-DOS/Windows based...
