Hi Steven,
even the 386 family has several members, like the 386DX and 386SX which are quite different from the 'hardware' point of view. DX is inside and outside 32 bit, SX is only internal 32 bit. There is also the 386EX, which is more a kind of microcontroller (it has on the chip a MMU,interrupt control unit,timer/counter,watchdog, asynchron and synchron serial i/o units,parallel i/o unit,refresh unit and J-tag unit for example.
