I think that "footprint" is probably the best word here, used as it is in PCB design. To differentiate between your two situations how about:
"Operational footprint" ie a definition of the area required for the equipment when in operation in a workshop including the space for the equipment itself and any space required for the operator, moving parts etc. ...and... "Storage or Absolute footprint" a definition of the minimum space required for storing the equipment. One problem with these phrases is that "footprint" to me only describes a 2D area but you may be concerned with the equipments height too? If this is the case how about "Operational dimensions" and "Storage/Absolute dimensions"? Hope this is of some help. |
