While your solution may work with the particular encoder you mention, it will not work in the situation I mentioned in an earlier posting (oscillating in gear lash - or other mechanical tolerance - while standing right over a border between blk and clr). The implementatiton that works, is a CPLD with shift registers for A and B that allow you to see the past and the present.
