I need to purchase MAX6960? or something else. The '51 can not drive an 8*8 display directly.
I do not know the MAX chip, but a quick glance at the datasheet seems to indicate it being an excellent choice for a small non-moving display. However It does not allow intensity regulation by simple means. Since the issue of my opposition to multipolecing has been raised, I need to make something clear: If you do not have 'moving messages' or intensity regulation, multiplexing is no trouble for a smallish display.
