#149413 - LCD Responding to: ???'s previous message |

I connected a 1602 LCD module I happened to have at hand - the 14-pin connector tends to be standard anyway, isn't it? However, it did not display anything... and the "asphalt" on it went hot!
A quick look onto the schematics (and later to the datasheet downloaded from digikey) revealed, that the LCD intended for the 8052.com SBC - hence the SBC itself - has swapped the supply pins against what appears to be a standard (and I've never seen a small character module departing from this pinout)! The datasheet for the specified LCD is here Pin 1 is Vcc and pin 2 is ground. That's what the board was designed to work with. Perhaps I've just been lucky, but when Digikey was out of stock of the specified LCD I purchased alternate LCDs and they, too, worked. I think the problem here is assuming there is a universal standard. I did some Googling and I do see a number of pages that indicate the reversed pinout. But the SBC was built to the above datasheet which definitely indicates a pin 1 of Vcc and pin 2 as ground, and it has worked with a number of alternate LCDs that I've acquired from Digikey.
