#149677 - ?additional capacitor
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Hello Kai,
Details of this post are going far beyound my knowledge and
linked thread is very interesting for me. Thnak You!
If my memory is ok, i remember in 32kHz circuit i mounted additional capacitor - in common R-Q point (where resistor and quartz are connected) to ground.

Thomas, Yo wrote 3mA / 12MHz for AT89C51.
I see [0.7xF(MHz)+3mA]- active mode,
[0.6xF(MHz)+2mA]- idle mode
in document for AT89C51AC2 . (http://www.atmel.com/dyn/resou...oc4127.pdf )

In Atmel doc for AT89C51 (oldest part) Icc is bigger than this.
So- see formulaes above - You cannott go below 3mA (active mode) with any crystal. If You can use powerdown mode - maybe , but 32kHz is not needed.
regards
