Accuracy of the GSM based positioning is the trade off we make, for the lower cost of the GSM module compared to GPS module.
A more precise location ID may be obtained by calculating the signal strengths of the individual cell towers in the adjoining area by using the AT+CCED command. As the signal strengths of the surrounding towers might be unique to a location, a more accurate fix is possible. This of course is theoretical and discounts the possibility of structures that absorb/reflect the signal, hence altering our fix. |
