The '51 docs use these two terms when describing
the '51 ports functionality. Is this your question ? The state of the latch describes whether the '51 is trying to drive the pin LOW or leaves it connected to HIGH via a pull-up. (except for port 0, which works differently). The state of the pin describes whether the actual signal at the pin is LOW or HIGH. The two can be different, for example when the latch is set to 1 (pin is connected to pull-up internally) and external circuitry is driving the pin to LOW. |
