#155462 - More "Horse Power" ? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I don't think that more horse power is really needed for a system with an OS and "loadable user programs". Gosh we had CP/M on 8080's and Z80's.
More horse power for Linux yes!! But a SiLabs '51 type part at 50MHz (or even 100MHz) and the cool set of built in resources beats the pants off the old 3.4576 MHz of the early 8080s in every way !! So the real consideration is, as I said before, being in the OS business _or_ the HW business with open source SW. A business model in between is really really questionable whenever you talk about combined embedded functionality and loadable user programs!!! (Unless you can sell a source code license for your product for 165-250K $$ and turn ALL subsequent product risk over to the purchaser). Michael Karas |
