#157362 - Winbond / Nuvoton 8051s with ISP
I am wondering if anyone has experience with RECENTLY manufactured 8051s from Winbond/Nuvoton that have In System / In Circuit programming capability. I had seen a post on another board from someone who claimed that all of their (Winbond/Nuvoton's) 8051s with this feature MUST first be programmed with a 'boot loader' in a parallel programmer because they are all shipped from the factory TOTALLY blank.

They have two areas of FLASH the regular 16/32/64/128K program space AND a separately addressable 4K FLASH space that is menat to hold the 'boot loader' download/programming code. Supposedly BOTH these FLASH areas are completely blnak in virgin devices. So, if you do not have a parallel programmer, you can not program it.

I know this seems whacky. The person says he had pointed this out to the companies tech support, and supposedly was later told that they would begin shipping units with a default loader.

I do not want to buy any until I know that this is now being done. Yes, contact the company. If they would just return my emails.

I am mainly referring to the following parts, as they have the features I am looking for.

Thank you !
