#157850 - Polyswitches vs fuses
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Polyswitches are a thermal device and because of this, they are slow - they can take many 10's ms to react as they have to heat up. It also means their response is dependant on the ambient temperature.

With your test, I gather there was a capacitor on the 12VDC circuit - this makes the difference as to the amount of energy available to the polyswitch (peak vs RMS). So, yes, the polyswitch does react differently between AC and DC circuits.

Sized and applied correctly, polyswitches are a great protection device but they take a little getting used to.
