Your frustration with Windows is widely shared but if you must execute in the Windows environment and need it to run behind you back, WIN2000 is about all you've got.

Mean time between failure for Win2000 (in my experience) can be as long as 2&1/2 weeks. But beware of hardware drivers i don't know but suspect they execute in Ring 0 as a bad driver can crash 2000 solid.

I wish Linux would penetrate the client desktop so that software could return to just solving algorithmic problems instead of also having to hold the desktop up.
