Absolutely: it is a standard package size - it has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the electrical characteristics of LEDs:
You also get chip resistors in 0805 package;
You also get chip capacitors in 0805 package;
etc, etc...


It's a bit like trying to deduce a transistor's characteristics simply from the fact that it's in a TO92 package, or an IC's characteristics simply from the fact that it's in a DIL package...
