#161284 - be careful with your choice of sources Responding to: ???'s previous message |
It's been about 6 years, but we had several vendors all of whom were within 10%. I believe the vendor that won out in the first run was Infineon. When we requested quotations, different distributors ranged from $4.50 down to the $0.80 that we got from a California branch of the same distributor that quoted us the $4.50 locally. The local office was frustrated when they learned that we were buying 75% of our components from out-of-town branches of their company.
I note that Infineon no longer offers SRAM. Cypress has a part that is listed by Future at $1.07 in unit quantity. It may cost considerably less in production quantity. http://download.cypress.com.edgesuite.net/design_re...199d_8.pdf A local board house quoted us approximately the same price for 10 boards that we paid for 5000 boards, including shipping, from China, and the 5000 boards we bought were all electrically tested, while the short-run boards were not. Things worked out well, since we didn't require any board modifications. Be sure to explore all your options. RE |
