#16136 - RE: what is paging?, Kunal |
..as an aside, I went to a lecture last week given by Professor Sir Maurice Wilks, just about the last great computer pioneer left alive. This was the man credited as the inventor of paging (in Erik's view AND Kunal's view), the inventor of microcode to drive CPUs, the inventor of indirect addressing....
His list of achievments was incredible. And at 87 years old, he could stand up and argue the fine points of modern architectures and OS design with any of us. Consider that an 8052 is probably more than 1 million times more powerful than his first machines, which had mercury delay line memory We always stand on the shoulders of giants. Steve |
