Steve, in this moment I am working near the same way and my project is going to be out on the street too ;). It is another project than your, but it is going to work on the street too.

But ALL, have you noticed this question in the first message? There are a lot of modern and working faster microcontrollers - maybe it is time to switch to the other one? I am not going to point the RIGHT MICRO, but 8051 based architecture is old and sometimes to slow. Specially if you are using high level programming language.

What do you mean about this?

I love MCS52 family, but my new controller is using AVR microcontroller...
