We have been using Protel 98 since 2 years. In my opinion it is very good. But I don't like "off-line" relation between layout and schematic. I mean i.e. when you are making layout project and you decide to switch from one gate to another (for example from gate number 1 of 7400 to gate number 2 of the same circuit), it doesn't make change to the schematic. I know some software, which is "on-line" connected (i.e. Eagle).
A few weeks ago I have considered upgrading to Protel 99. We have got demo version from software vendor, but we didn't buy it. As said before - it makes huge databases and it is difficult to manage the project's files without Protel. And 3D presentation of layout is not finished yet, I think. But this is my opinion only.
