but what happens in this case:

static U8 vals;

U8 function( U8 val );

U8 function( U8 val )
{
U8 temp = 1;
return val + temp;
}

For U8 == "unsigned char" it works.
But if U8 == "extern unsigned char" all these (and many others) crashes !
