Without knowing just what is in your current main loop, I cannot comment, but it strikes me that you can process some items in even your main loop much less often than once per loop. I have often written stuff where chunks of code execute at different rates in the same program.

Is this a DMX type system ? If so, you only need to action soemthing if its addressed to you.most of the time the system needs to do very little perhaps.
