One thing coming to mind reading Andys post, my comments re RTOS are related to the 8 bit world. If your task requires a RTOS it will typically reqquire more horsepower than an 8 bitter can produce. I see a lot of attempts to squeeeze something into a known world when it rightfully belong in another.
