This programmer however itself needs a programmed 89c51, so you have a chicken-and-egg sorta problem.

However beginner projects should be simpler. Don't get into the code they have used for the programmer....Start of with a simple blink LED program, then learn I/O, interrupts, timers and then interfacing peripherals. Sounds easy don't it?? :-))

Following the tutorials on this site will be very good.
