Not a bad idea Erik...it might work ;-) It'll take a lot of design and trial and error (or R&D as I call it :-D ) but it might work.

I find it's useful to sometimes speculate in fields of which we have some idea but lack deep knowledge. That way we come up with radical concepts that an experience and knowledgeable person might not have though of because his/her mind is pre-conditioned (by education or experience) to converge on the most optimal solution. The expert might even scoff at such unconventional ideas.

But then you could get lucky and hit upon an idea that could make you rich ;-)) Maybe ultimately it won't be used for the exact same application you designed it for, but that doesn't matter when you get a profitable patent :-)
