My name is Azhar Ali Chohan, live in karachi, and i have done B.E. in electronics. I have been working as a (Embedded Systems) Design Engineer for kind of 15 months and what i have found out that this career is a dead end in pakistan. As you know we live in third world country where R&D work is kind of neglectable. No one here is ready to invest resources for some thing serious.
The problems which i found out here is as follows,
1, what ever you design must be built with components available in market in large quantity.
2, You will get a limited salary kind of 7000 to 10000Rs (1$ = 65Rs) a month. And no share of any kind in product at all even product hits billions.
3, Chances to be fired will increased to 90% after you finished all the products they want.
4, Probably you will be the only one who will do,
a,Reseach
b,Designing(hardware+software)
c,perchasing components
d,debugging
e,Teach your boss or whatever, what you designed and how it work.
f, Answering stupid questions like who will buy our product.

There are also other thing which i could not remember at this time. I am think of to switching my job to some thing not involve research or i have to go to some other country where i do not worry about my future.
I suggest you should design product by you own as prevoiusly said. It will benefit you more. And also try to create you own lab like i have did and fill it with all kind of test equipments (usually hand made) to do virtually any thing by your own.
