I recently used this UART in a project successfully. I'm not sure what you mean by "normal" in "use it as normal UART". This particular device has a number of "enhanced" features, so I crafted a new driver from scratch. The datasheet is reasonably good about explaining how to use it, although I did have to read it several times through, cross-checking my understanding back and forth between sections.
