keep the program simpler like this :-

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
char szBuf[1024];

while(fgets(szBuf)!=NULL)
{
for(int i=0;i<strlen(szBuf);i++)
{
if(szBuf[i]!='$')
{
printf("%c",szBuf[i])
}
}
}
}

this will remove all occurences of the dollar sign '$' from your file. use it like this on the command line:-

e.g. if you call the program 'strip'

c:> strip < input.txt > output.txt
