Some weeks ago we had posts about initializing a 4-bit-LCD. The problem was the timeout between the commands.

My problem is now: I'm waiting long enough between the commands, but the LCD still doesn't show anything. I even connected it with 8 data lines to keep things simple. It only shows the first line dark and the second line bright (by the way, it's a 16x2 display). The program doesn't crash or something, it's just that nothing happens. Why?

Can anyone please give me a simple piece of code to initialize the LCD with 8 data lines? Assembler, please ... and yes, I tried the tutorial and the code library. Both don't work. And yes, the display is connected correctly.
