Now I tried every code suggestion, without any changes. I'm already believing after all this might be a hardware problem (connections, latch, whatever ...).
I'll concentrate on other problems now (i.e. my simulator or serial communication between 8051 and PC). Maybe I'll try the LCD again in a couple of weeks.
