Equivalent Series Resistance
A physical capacitor can be modeled as an ideal capacitor in series with a resistor. The lower the value of this resistor, the better the capacitor is. The higher the frequency and current associated with the circuit, the more important this value becomes, since it determines the losses in the capacitor. In a switched mode power supply it is also a determining factor in the output ripple voltage. Rob. |
