#3317 - RE: risky new chips |
Hi Michael,
it sounds nice to use USB on my 8051 instead of RS232. Since my nootebook have USB, IR, FireWire, which all useless for me. But only 1 RS232 which can only be connected over a big adaptor box. But I have very bad experience on chips announced for the next time. E.g. the Atmel AT89S8252 needed over 4 years to be available. Also my 1995 XA data book IC25 contain already the XA-C3 (with CAN). And now (2000) it was announced again ! So I use never again a chip before I can get it in production quantinies. But better additional 1 year later, if most bugs are known or removed. Since I wasted many time to found bugs on using new devices e.g. on the Atmel At90S1200, ATtiny22 (hanging some times so I must discontinue my work completely), on the Dallas DS80C320 (wrong T0 mode 3), ... Also if these bugs removed today, its very risky to sell gadgets with to new devices. Peter |
