Like I said before,using optical laser diodes is not a good idea as they cannot be modulated very fast,and at the reciever you need to pay close attention to the front end bandwidth,thinking more about DC restoration.Most recievers of this type use transconductance type op-amps to allow high bandwidth and high gain.
