Cygnal Parts have various amounts of on board XRAM. I have used parts with 2K bytes and 8K bytes. Since these parts are In Circuit Programmable via a JTAG port there is no need for a parallel programmer at all. This the fact that Cygnal parts come in small surface mount pakages should not be any problem.
