I am not sure the maths gets complicated if the source is outside the boundry formed by the detectors.If you draw three detectors you can draw a boundry between them where a source is closer to oneout of the three.I think that for any arrangement you have to find the area for each detector where a signal will reach it first,ifyou see whatI mean
