#41241 - RE: 80196 vs 8052
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Well, you're doing the project so you know the requirements - performance, nature & size of the code & data, etc, etc

Why is the 80196 being used currently?

Can an 8051 meet the requirements?
If so, you may well find that it's cheaper.
8051s have multiple sources.
You might be able to get the whole application onto a single chip (but if you can, that probably indicates that the 80196 was waaaaaaaaaaaay OTT in the first place!)

When considering a change of processor, don't forget to include the tool costs (compilers, emulators, debuggers, etc) and the cost of the learning curve for both the new processor and the new tools!
