Hello Frans,
a PCs serial port works with voltages of +- 12V wich will damage directly connected lcd displays. Take a new one and connect it to a microcontroller. If you google, you'll find lots of code and applications in the net. Also have a look at the 8052.com code library. If the new one works, you can test your the lcd you were actually working with.
