From what I've seen, the old 20meg MFM/RLL drives work the best at shaking. But some older drives used the modern voice coil. This coil was huge 10 years ago! It was rated between 2-4 ohms, which made it perfect for connecting to a large stereo. The frequency responce was poor, but if you had a song with tons of base, it was sure fun to watch the drive jump. I never thought about punishing the drive like you did, but now that I have the idea fresh in my mind... I think I still have an old 20meg. I just need the pin out of the 34-pin control line.
