------------------------------- But some older drives used the modern voice coil. This coil was huge 10 years ago! It was rated between 2-4 ohms, which made it perfect for connecting to a large stereo. The frequency responce was poor, but if you had a song with tons of base, it was sure fun to watch the drive jump. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - We designed hard drive controllers for Multibus computers (minicomputers). They used the SMD bus and were the highest tech designs for the time. Drives sizes ranged from multiplatter devices the size of washing machines to more common "Small-sized" drives the size of a desk drawer removed. Small platter sizes in those days were still 8 inches. These things could really shove some weight around. -Jay C. Box |
