I am at the moment interfacing a Compact Flash card to a Cygnal 8051 derivative. I intend to write a file system so that there is some low cost and complete solution that is totally compatible with then using the Compact Flash card in a USB reader on my PC. I'll keep you posted. My design is going for relative high performance and will support 32K or 64K of external data RAM for FAT and DIRECTORY caching. The RAM will be both directly accessed by the microcontroller and will support something I call fly-by transfer for fast reading/writing of CF card data sectors into and out of the cache memories. (The same hardware with some minor modifications will also be able to support ATA style hard drives and for sure the 1G IBM micro-drive. I'll post details at completion on my home page here. Presently I am laying out the PC board artwork for the thing. Michael Karas |
